In many cases providing Alexa with the location information in the question will alleviate the fact you cannot currently change her location to outside of the countries supported by Amazon due to host-end address verification they employ. This location is also used for responding to the “what’s the weather like today” question. The Locale awareness is provided by the device having knowledge of her address so she can provide information on local businesses etc rather than the default ones in Seattle (seems to be where she thought she was out-of-the-box). If she provides meaningful timings and mentions the correct route you are away. Use the format described and make sure you extend to include the country once the address is saved the country is no longer shown but a good way to make sure you have it working is to simply ask Alexa “What’s the traffic like?”. The traffic settings can be changed and in my case with a little effort I could set them to the actual addresses in New Zealand. further detailed instructions can be found here The TimeZone settings can be solved using methods described around the internet, essentially it means using the HTTP POST data which has been locally modified to set the required timezone (mine is Pacific/Auckland).
